God, so agreed. Fat people totally bear the brunt of America’s anxiety about it’s own consumption. And re: fat women as the cause celebre (too lazy to find the accent aigu), I think its more that there’s always just a couple of non-normative people allowed to make it to the top–a few black CEOs, a few women senators, a few fat female stars, and then people can go, “Look, queen latifah made it! That means theres no discrimination!”
It totally doesn’t sound silly, dude! I gave you a bunch of links to fat acceptance sites, remember? Fat acceptance is totally awesome and valid. And dude, Ben, there is TONS of fat hatred. Minnesota has a bill to *ban fat people from eating in resteraunts*. Not to mention job discrimination, etc. Fat hatred is a huge deal. Go to kateharding.net, it’s a great site and it has tons of links to other great fat acceptance blogs as well.
Aah, so you just can’t *talk* about tattoos with me. Sad, Marina. You make me sad.
Ben’s right–Britney’s mental illness means that she doesn’t have the resources to help herself. She might have the ability to find help, but not the ability to know that she needs it. Like, if I was suicidal, would you be like, “well, she’s an adult and she has the ability to make her own decisions. enjoy your pill-and-vodka breakfast, dude!” No, you’d get me help, because you’d realize that I’m not equipped to make decisions about my own health and safety.

I don’t think I’ve ever heard another podcaster say performative before. It tickled me. I also liked how you say that “Hi Girls” to groups of boys. I totally thought Ben was peeing when he was getting water. And why don’t you use the mute button when you’re on the phone to flush the toilet? There’s also a great episode from Democracy Now! where the author of the Omnivore’s Dilemma talks all about our food culture, and how other ethnicities aren’t as adapted to it as white people and tend to be more adversely affected more quickly. Anyway, I really enjoyed it.
