Actually, that makes a lot of sense, if you think about the whole backlash-era and women making strides in traditionally male jobs and stuff. If you have a problem watching castration, it's probably best if you never see the movie Teeth, which is too bad because it's super-awesome. It's a horror movie about vagina dentata! Alexis Arquette actually filmed a documentary about her transition a while ago, and she originally planned to let them film her <i>as she was operated on</i> so as to demystify the process--but she ultimately decided that she wanted to leave the status of her genitals private because she felt the attention was exploitative. So I guess her fabulous penis could still exist? Just so you know, Marina, your laughter frightens my kitten. LOL. It certainly seems to be the new identity struggle in the spotlight now. Which is good, since I think gay people emerged from their time in the limelight in a better place in the overall culture.
